Big Mystery Solved

My apartment is on a small road next to a major road. I chose it because it should be quiet, as the traffic should mostly go on the major road.

Once a while, there would be a car with very noisy engine or with its stereo turned way up. These are probably unavoidable while living in apartments, and cannot be solved until I buy a house (which would never happen as long as I live in L.A.).

But the most annoying traffic noise is from motorcycles. They are usually much more noisy, and you would hear them well before they came and until well after they're gone. Having them once a while is still probably tolerable. But they happen way too frequent. And surprisingly, very often they drive around a few times in a short span.

I finally found out way when I was walking around the neighborhood one day. There is a motorbike store on the major road. Since our small road has no bumps, my apartment is on their most preferred test drive route...

Nonevil Mails

Strangely, I received two emails from the nonevil company today. The first is because I was referred by someone there; apparently there is some kind of event going on there for hiring more people. Hiring is probably made even more difficult by the fact that the cap of H-1B (foreign worker visa) has reached in a couple of days this year.

The second email was from my HR contact that made me an offer. She still remembers the reason I declined their offer and was checking to see if I am reconsidering opportunities there.

Anyway, it is becoming harder for me to leave my company now, as I just found out they are granting me more stock options and units...

Dance Friendliness

This is the one little thing I overlooked during apartment hunting.

When I lived in a high-rise, it wasn't an issue. I didn't worry too much about that for this new place, as I thought living on the first floor should be ok. But I was so wrong.

First, the apartment is cheaply built. Jumping up and down will cause the whole unit to shake, which you can easily tell when you hear the windows vibrating. Second, while it is in theory first floor, it is a bit above the ground level, and below is a storage facility that the service guys hang around.

Now I can't dance at home. I can't walk to work, living so far away from work now. What should I do for exercise?

Cold Recovered

Per request by a frequent visitor, I need to write something. Since my last few days are spent on recovering from the cold, I'll talk a bit about it.

It all started from the beach visit, like I said, but eating too much junk food was also part of the problem. On the lunch immediately before, I went to McDonald's for a chicken salad. Without noticing, the seemingly intellectually challenged Asian lady gave me the salad and a chicken sandwich. Fearing negative impact on the lady, I decided against returning the sandwich. Not wanting to waste food either, I chose to finish the sandwich too.

The day after, I went to In-N-Out for a double cheeseburger lunch. The day before, I went to Jack In The Box to try out their Sirloin burger for dinner and had a chocolate shake for dessert.

And you wonder why I got sicked.

Cold

In case if you notice the lack of updates in this blog, I have been suffering from a terrible cold lately. This must be because of my recent visit to the Malibu beach, which was too windy and the water was too cold. And no, I didn't see any celebrity...

Ridiculous Gas Price

Gas prices are really getting ridiculous, and is always due to refinery limitation. I saw a Mobil selling $3.99 yesterday, making my 5% cashback gas credit card more useful than ever. I still remember when I got my car it was less than $1.2...
