Obsession with twngan

Despite efforts on advertisements, the retail services in Hong Kong could still be extremely horrible and much worse than the counterpart in mainland China. Quite the opposite to, say, 20 years ago. This is one of the stories I heard about.

So a customer X went to shop for clothings in Jusco. X was interested in an item, so she asked the shopkeeper Y, who was very busy chitchatting with her colleague, the price of the item. Y ignored X. X asked again, Y ignored again.

"Excuse me, can you tell me how much is this?" X raised her voice a little bit.

Of course, Y couldn't care less. It appeared that she didn't want her conversation interrupted.

Feeling angry, X said, "What's wrong with you!? How come you don't answer me after I asked you like 10 times?"

Finally, Y replied. "What 10 times? You only asked 3 times!"

"Then how come you didn't answer me?" X followed up.

"Can't you see I'm in the middle of a conversation?" Y shot back with a sound reason.

X was speechless.

So was I when I was told about this story.

There's probably a reason why I don't like to go out a lot and do most of my shopping online.

I'm finally back from my 3-week trip. And it's been like forever since I have updated this blog. A lot has happened, both happy (seeing my previous advisor, getting an offer from the non-evil company, arriving elite status in Continental, eating well in Hong Kong) and unhappy (not going to list any here). Anyway, it is probably time to put most of those stuff behind and start applying for more jobs.

Yet another interesting search referral to my blog. Someone from Canada came to my blog while googling "Appledaily free hack", apparently looking for ways to read Appledaily outside Hong Kong for free. I guess probably he hasn't, but had he read my blog closely enough, he would have found a way to do so...

I have finally got this book that I have wanted to read for a long time: Turing, by Christos Papadimitriou. A novel that is by a theoretical computer scientist, is funny, contains "Turing" in the title, has something to do with Hong Kong, is recommended by Knuth, describes the halting problem and how RSA works, and contains proofs on, among others, real numbers are not countable. I mean, What else can you ask for in a love novel?

But sadly, before I can read it, I should probably first finish cover to cover another book Economics and the Theory of Games, by Fernando Vega-Redondo, as it seems to be the most relevant book in the library for my research. After all, I still have the intention to decide a direction and finish my dissertation.

And oh, by the way, it seems that both books are prepared in L^AT_EX.
